Hello, How can you tell if a molecular ion will have one or ore unpaired eletrons? For example, "Which of the following molecules is expected to have one or more unpaired electrons? Check all that apply. O2- F2+ N22- O22-" Any help would be appreciated.

OpenStudy (liliakarina):

E. g., for Fe (Z=26), the electronic configuration is: \[1s ^{2}2s ^{2}p ^{6}3s ^{2}p ^{6}d ^{6}4s ^{2}\] The 'd' orbital is the one that has l=2 allowed the 'm' from -2, 0, 2 (5 orbitals) First, you fil the ones with spin 1/2 (x) and then the -1/2 (y) xy x x x x (6 electrons, 4 unpaired).

Thanks :D.

You may wanna check an electronic configuration page for more info.

do you know where i can go?

TranceNova is right. :)
