what is the ratio of the intensity i1 and i2 in the figure as the amplitude of wave 1 is a and amplitude of second wave is 2a

OpenStudy (fretje):

The square of the amplitude is proportional to the intensity of the wave. So we have for both waves I1=k.A1² (k being a constant) and I2=k.A2² and as A1 = 2.A2 we substitute I1 = k.(2.A2)² = 4.k.A2² = 4.I2 So I1 = 4 times I2
