the sum of an infinite geometric series with first term a and common ratio r < 1 is given by a/ 1-r. the sum of a given infinite geometric series is 200, and the common ratio is 0.15. What is the second term of this series?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\frac{a}{1-0.15} = 200\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a = 170 170 (0.15) = 25.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you got that lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are you on here

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hey turbo just went and smoked now i is back

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no biggie...do you understand what he did up there

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or she or whatever

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no lol

the sum of an infinite geometric series with first term a and common ratio r < 1 is given by a/ 1-r. the sum of a given infinite geometric series is 200, and the common ratio is 0.15. What is the second term of this series?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont understand how they got 170 or the equation for that matter

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now that we can see it better....once again you want to write down all your numbers so that you can see them better...your first term will be "a"...your common ratio is going to be less than one...the formula you have to use to find it is a/1-r...make sense

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i need to be hit upside the head cause no lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok wait if i read i might understand it lol ok i got that part...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol...that's ok...your formula to find the first term in the sequence is a/1-r...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

from that point you plug in the numbers that the problem gives you into the formula...make sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah but how do you work it out to get the 170?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

once you have plugged in the numbers, you have to solve for a

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do your little drawing so i can see what you are doing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

new window this one is freezing
