Two noisy nightclubs are located at opposite ends of a 1000 ft long street. , Nightclub A is four times as noisy as Nightclub B. The intensity of the noise at a point away from the source of the noise is proportional to the noisiness of the source and inversely proportional to the square of the distance from the source of the noise. Use differentiation to find the quietest point on the block between the two nightclubs

the noise at point x, with 0 being nightclub A, is y = 4/x^2 + 1/(1000-x)^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Solve[D[4/x^2 + 1/(1000 - x)^2, x] == 0, x] x = 613.512

did you take the derivative of the equation and set it to zero?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i just used mathematica to do that part

thanks! figuring out the equations was the hardest part
