A 0.145 kg baseball is pitched at 42 m/s. The batter hits it horizontally to the pitcher at 58 m/s. A.Find the change in momentum of the ball. B. If the ball and bat are in contact for 4.6X10^-4 s, what is the average force during contact?

OpenStudy (alfie):

Do you know what impulse is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not really. its the change in momentum , right?

OpenStudy (alfie):

Right. So you want to find the impulse. \[\Delta \rho = I\] Momentum = mass * velocity. You have the mass, you have the velocity.

OpenStudy (alfie):

Then the second question, you can see the relation between impulse and Force. Impulse = Force * time. So the force = impulse/time. :)

Okay, thank you ^^

You're welcome.
