(7 + √2)(8 - 3√2)
(7 + √2)(5√2)
Am I doing this right? If so what do I do after this?

well, if you replace sqr 2 with x, would you be able to subtract it?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
you can't do 8-3x, can you?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
you have to multiply it out
OpenStudy (anonymous):
3-√2? or 50 - 13√2
OpenStudy (anonymous):
multiply it out like a regular factored out quadratic equation which by the way has nothing to do with this

I don't get what your saying here. How do I right it out. I do better with visuals instead of explanations.

k, wait a second...
OpenStudy (anonymous):
(7+√2)(8-3√2)
56+21√2+8√2+2
56+29√2+2
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Wouldn't it be 56 - 21 since the 3 has a - in front of it making it a negative?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
oh right, my bad

So it is 56 - 21√2 + 8√2 + 2
I don't understand where the "8√2" comes in because we already used the 8 in "8 · 7 = 56" so don't it cancel it out? or no?
