Can someone explain to me what an electron configuration and Lewis Dot Diagram is? And possibly give me an example.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the electron configurations is how the electrons configure themselves around a nucleus. A lewis sctucture is a way to represent the electron configuration. For example,.....

.. . N . . that might be eisier to see but the periods represent the electrons. there can be two in the top, right, left, bottom. but nitrogen has five. so you would put one on each side then one more on one of the other sides

Isn't there seven electrons in Nitrogen?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ErrrmmmmlDunno- there are 7 e- total in N, but in Lewis Dot diagrams, you only show the valence (or outermost) electrons.
