Gunter, the weightlifter, can lift a 230.0-kg barbell overhead on Earth. The acceleration due to gravity on the sun is 274 m/s^2. What is the weight of the barbell on the sun (if he was safe from the heat)? How much force does each arm carry?

OpenStudy (jamesj):

Weight = mg, where m is the mass and g is the gravitational acceleration where he is. On earth g = ~9.8 m/s^2

Isn't the first answer just 63020N? Since w=mg, m=230, and since he's on the sun the g=274 so 230 x 274= 63020. I don't know how to do the last question though..unless you just divide by 2? I'm not sure..

OpenStudy (jamesj):

yes, that's right.
