Please balance: KMnO4 + As2O3 + HCl + H2O --> MnCl2 + H2AsO4 + KCl

This is a redox reaction... Write half reactions and balance them and add., Mn(7+)O4- +5e- + 8H+ -> Mn(2+) +4H2O .....*6 As(3+)2O3 +5H2O -> 2As(6+)O4- +10H+ + 6e- ...*5 Now add them to write the final equation... (I dont know how to use subscripts Sorry abt that).

You can also use the oxidation-state method it will be easier: 6KMnO4 +5 As2O3 +18 HCl + H2O --> 6MnCl2 +10 H2AsO4 + 6KCl Mn(+7)--+5e--Mn(+2) 6 As(+3)--(-3*2e)--As(+6) 5

What i have done os the same thing you can't write Mn as 7+ directly as it is not an ion hence it should be written as MnO4-

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Why? u used method of half reactions but me the oxidation-state method ) i think both are correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You can NOT write Mn as only Mn7+ in Mn04- in any method it is NOT an ion.

I know that it's not an ion.I balanced the atoms!!! At the result I obtained the correct answer) It's the main.
