calculate the speed of an 8.0x10^4 kg airliner with a kinetic energy of 1.1x10^9 j

OpenStudy (jamesj):

What is the formula for kinetic energy?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

KE=Fd right? but i would have to use the equation KE=.5mv^2 right?

OpenStudy (jamesj):

Yes, kinetic energy of a mass m moving at a speed v is \[ KE = \frac{1}{2} mv^2 \] Now, you have KE and m. Solve for v.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i did and my final answer was 165.83 but when i researched the question online it doesn't seem to be correct..

OpenStudy (jamesj):

v = 165.8 m/s is correct. Maybe however, the question is asking you to express speed as km/hr or something else.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh right ! thanks !!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

v = 165.8 m/s
