Indicate whether the following molecules are polar or nonpolar. 1. Cl - Cl 2. H - F 3. H- Br 4. I subscript 2

OpenStudy (jfraser):

bonds are polar when the electronegativity of the atoms that make the bond are different. When Cl bonds with Cl, both atoms "pull" equally hard on the electrons. When H bonds with F, the pulling is unequal, so the bond is polar.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1. Cl - Cl non polar 2. H-F polar 3. H - Br polar electronegativity arises when one atom pulls the electron cloud more to its self.
