More fluid mechanics! Help please... A vertical cylindrical tank having a base diameter of 3 m and a height of 5 m is filled to the top with water at 20 deg Celsius. How much water will overflow if the water is heated to 80 deg Celsius? How high does the tank need to be at 80 deg Celsius so that no water overflows if we assume the diameter of the tank is the same?

\[\beta_v = {1 \over V} {\Delta V \over \Delta T}\]We can look up \(\beta\), we know the initial volume, and the change in temperature. The second part is pretty straight forward.

Hmm. What is this equation called? I do not know what beta is because that hasn't been part of the material in class. My impression is that we are to solve this problem using surface tension or compressibility. thanks!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oops nevermind found it online, thermal expansion.

(Is there a way to solve using surface tension or compressibility?)
