WHY ACETIC ACID IS STRONGER IN STRENGHT THAN CHLOROACETIC ACID

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

sory the question is not correct it should be !!!reverse of that !!!!chloroacetic acid is stronger in strength!!! strength of acid depends on its PKa value!!! Pka value is used to compare the strength of 2acids as u have asked here lower the Pka value higher the acid strength and higer the Pka value lower the strength in the above two case PKa-acetic acid is 4.23 and chloroacetic acid is 2.3 something hence chloroacetic acid is higher strength than the acetic acid the reason for this different in value is chlorine atom attached to acetic acid due to its high electronegativity weakens the O-H bond and Also stabilizes the anion making H+ to go in easy maner but in case of acetic acid it is hydrogen hence it is not possible to donate H+!!!!!!!!!!

ok iam sorry.i was confused

It is possible to donate the H+ in acetic acid, it just dissociates less readily than chloroacetic acid (for the reasons given by chmvijay).
