Does this set of data have any outliers? Data: 1, 2, 2, 4, 6, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 16, 16, 18.
Do you know what outliers are?
Welcome to openstudy by the way. Outliers are numbers that are too far off from the others. I think they are all relatively close, so your answer is no.
They're really confusing... in my opinion I was hoping someone could help
Okay, so if i were trying to find the range of a set of data. Heres the data: 1,2,2,3,5,12. To find the range, i subtract the highest, from the lowest. But the number 12 pulls it WAY too far up. 12 is an example of an outlier. To get a fair range, we must remove the 12.
ok so 12 is the outlier here?
Yep. Outlier is just a number that is too far off from the others. Your set of data does not have any outlier.
ok so what would we do with the outlier? Would we use the 5 instead to find the range?
Yeah. You just remove outliers when you see them
Dont forget to hit "good answer" if i helped you out! :)
Lol. That makes a lot more sense than the "big words" in my text book. Thanks and I totally will...:)
