I have a question..
It is easy calculate angle of the arc and compute the area of circular part add then the area of triangle
cinar, this looks really similar to a question that you recently deleted. Please don't delete and repost questions. Thanks!
notsobright, please show your work..
So are we to assume that the cow can go around the 2ft wall and continue eating grass? So effectively, the rope is 6 feet at that point?
cow is very smart and green area is all grass..
So we have 20 ft of fences?
If so, then the maximum area needed is that of a circle with perimeter of 20 ft, that's radius of \(\large \frac{10}{\pi}\) and area \(\large \frac{100}{\pi} \text{ft}^2\).
It looks like the cow can eat a half-circle of grass with radius 8ft, and then another half-circle of grass with radius 6ft. That's: 1/2*Pi*8*8 + 1/2*Pi*6*6 = 50 Pi =~ 157.08 square feet of grass
Correction: the 6ft rope should centered at the west edge of the fence, not where the cow is.
barrycarter is right, you got a medal (:
