Consider the above diagram 1) What is equivalent potential for batteries 1 and 2 if they are 4.0 Volts and 9 volts respectively. 2) If the resistors are R1: 3.9 ohms, R2: 6.1Ohms, and R3: 1.0 Ohms. and the batteries are the same, what is the current out of the batteries? 3) What is the voltage across V2-3 over R2 and R3?

The total potential is just the sum of the EMF's of the batteries (V1+V2). Resistors in series are added to find the total resistance. Kirchoff's law about the voltage changes of a closed circuit summing to zero then gives us\[V_1+V_2-IR_{\text{total}}=V_1+V_2-I(R_1+R_2+R_3)=0\]find the current by solving for I. The voltage change across a given segment is found from Ohm's law\[\Delta V=IR\]Where R is the total resistance across the segment. For example the change in voltage across resistors 1 and 2 would be\[\Delta V_{12}=I(R_1+R_2)\]
