pentagons and hexagons have how many total degrees in them?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
it dosnt say :(
OpenStudy (anonymous):
I know, you can calculate them out
OpenStudy (anonymous):
remember (N-2)*180?

oohhh
OpenStudy (anonymous):
but i get confused though, thats y i need help :(
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so how many total degrees are in each? N being number of sides
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ois it 11-2*180?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
sorry, I meant to calculate them separately

ooh, 5-2*180 + 6-2*180?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yes, but you don't want them totalled together; once you have the total degrees in each polygon, you need to find out how large each SEPARATE angle is in each polygon. This simply requires the total divided by the number of sides. from there, take another look at your picture...
OpenStudy (anonymous):
...remembering that 360 degrees make up a full circle...
OpenStudy (anonymous):
im confused man im sorry, i know ur tryin to help :(
OpenStudy (anonymous):
k, how many total degrees are in a hexagon (N=6)?

320?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
no: (6-2)*180=720; how many total degrees in a pentagon?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
500?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
show me your work, that is incorrect..
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i did 5-2 wich is 3 and i multiplied 3 with 180

thats correct, but your arithmetic is wrong then; 3*180=540
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ohh my badd
OpenStudy (anonymous):
k, so back to the hexagon: we have 720 degrees total in it, and 6 angles inside it, correct?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yep
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so how large is each angle in the hexagon if they are all the same size?

120
OpenStudy (anonymous):
bam! so how large are the angles on the pentagon?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
lol, 108
OpenStudy (anonymous):
k, so now we have the two adjacent angles to the desired angle in the picture, right?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yep

OpenStudy (anonymous):
so remember that there are 360 degrees in a circle, and apply that to your picture
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i dont understand?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
you agree that there are 360 degrees in a circle?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yea
OpenStudy (anonymous):
look at the picture, and how if you add up the two adjacent angles, plus the unknown one, it makes a circle.

ls the answer 132
OpenStudy (anonymous):
close but not quite
OpenStudy (anonymous):
redo your arithmetic
OpenStudy (anonymous):
but 228+132 makes 360?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
where'd you get 228?

105+120 = ?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i added the 2 angles
OpenStudy (anonymous):
which should not yield 228
OpenStudy (anonymous):
is the answer 135?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
BAM! thanks for sticking through the problem with me, I know it can be time-consuming, but you're giving me a little more faith in our younger generation and education system...
