how does volume change affect a chemical reaction, does the equation shift to the left or right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well if volume is increased in the reaction then look where the no. of moles is greater ok if volume is decreased then look which side mole is min. there the reaction will proceed

OpenStudy (anonymous):

An increase in pressure or decrease in volume will move the equilibrium to the side with less number of moles. A decrease in pressure or increase in volume will move the equilibrium to the side with more number of moles. eg., N2 + 3H2 -> 2NH3. Now there are four moles on the left while 2 on the right. If you decrease volume then reaction will move towards ammonia side.
