Explain how gas volume depends on temperature and pressure.

OpenStudy (jfraser):

Imagine you've got a container with some number of gas molecules inside. Gases craete pressure by colliding with the walls of the container. The more collisions, the higher the pressure will be. What will happen to the molecules when the container is heated? What will happen to the collisions when the container is squeezed?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

could this be explaining it in terms of kinetic theory of matter?

OpenStudy (jfraser):

partially, yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

any other explanation then

OpenStudy (jessicap):

Decrease pressure=increase volume; Increase pressure=decrease volume Decrease temperature=decrease volume; Increase temperature=increase volume In other words, volume is inversely proportional to pressure, and directly proportional to temperature.
