Im sorry but nobodys in chemistry helps!! The chemical reaction for making benzene from carbon and hydrogen is: 6C+3H2>C6H6 If 72 grams of carbon and 6 grams of hydrogen react completly, how many benzene will be formed? Explain answer?
It's fine to post the occasional chem or phys problem here: in science we call that "interdisciplinary cooperation." ;D The chemical equation tells you how many mols of each reactant go into the problem. The trick is to figure out how many mols of each reactant you have by converting grams to moles. Then whichever reactant you have fewer moles of will be what's called the "limiting reactant." That's how many moles of benzene will be formed in the reaction. Clear?
I meant how many grams of benezene will be formed?
OK, you figure out the molecular weight of benzene. You have six carbon and six hydrogen atoms in the molecule, so you add up all their weights to figure out benzene's molecular weight. Then you use that to convert the moles of product into grams...
I have to go soon...
im sorry but can u draw it
its soo confusing 2 me
It'll be clearer after you get some practice with it. For converting moles of benzene to grams of benzene, the first thing you need to figure out is how many grams of benzene makes up one mole of the stuff. The formula for figuring out the molecular weight of benzene is 6 * 1.0079 + 6 * 12.01 for six carbons and six hydrogens. So you know that 1 mole of benzene = about 78 grams. You take however many moles of benzene are formed in the reaction and multiply it by the ratio (molecular weight of benzene in grams) / (1 mole). The units (moles, in this case) cancel and once you've done the multiplication you have the correct amount of benzene in grams.
since they "react completely", you could just add the two masses and there's your answer. In chemical reactions, no mass is lost (or found, for that matter). everything happens in the outermost layer of the electron shell. mass is lost only in physical phenomena.
