The bottom shape is a cube with base edges of 16 meters. The top shape is a right pyramid with a height of 15 meters. What is the surface area of this composite figure?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

.544 m2 1,280 m2 1,824 m2 2,080 m2

OpenStudy (mertsj):

The five sides of the cube are 5 squares which are 16 by 16 so that is 5 (256) =1280

thank u so much

OpenStudy (mertsj):

To get the top, we have to find the slant height of the pyramid which is the hypotenuse of a right triangle whose legs are 15 and 8. So the slant height is 17. So each of the 4 triangles has area 1/2(16)(17) which is 136 but there are 4 of them so that is 4 times 136 or 544. Now we must add the 5 sides of the cube. 544+1280=1824 and that is the answer.
