what is the energy of a single electron?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1.6 * 10^-19 Coloumbs

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It depends on the energy level in which it is. 1.6*10^-19 is the charge on an electron not the energy.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then divide by mass of electron

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You don't get anything by dividing by mass either. Some more data is essential, In what context or in what lesson did come across this? There are many ways you can see an enrgy of an electron as. If it is bounded to an atom then Boh'r formula becomes valid. Or you could use E=mc^2 to find the energy possessed by the elctron...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you cannot say the energy of single electron...It depends on where the electron located...whether its in K shell,L-shell etc...Its a moving particle it has got potential energy and kinetic energy....depends on the position its energy will vary....
