what's the method for completing the square of something like : x^4 + 1/(16x^4) + 1/2

The quadratic formula works for everything, so if you can't figure it out, try using this. \[x=-b \pm \sqrt{b ^{2}-4ac}\] everything on the other side of he x divided by 2a, i just couldn't figure out the way to show it on the equations thing.

for my question can you tell me what the values for a b and c are?

Did you write the equation correctly? Did you mean \[x ^{4} +1/6x ^{2} +1/2\] Either way you are going to have to let another variable equal \[x ^{2}\] So let \[k=x ^{2}\] Note that \[(x ^{2})^{2}=x ^{4}\] In the equation I wrote you would have \[k ^{2}+1/16k+1/2\] Solve for k using the quadratic equation, and then solve for x by substituting k back into to where we let \[k=x ^{2}\]
