Why is BrCl5 nonpolar when it's Asymmetrical? Aren't symmetrical molecules suppposed to be polar?

OpenStudy (rogue):

Although there exists a dipole moment in the molecule, I guess its nonpolar because the dipole is very small as the electronegativity difference between the Br and Cl is very low and so it can be neglected.

OpenStudy (rogue):

That's just a hunch by the way!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That atually makes a lot of sense. I can't believe I hadn't realized it before. Thanks Alot!! (Truth be told, a hunch is better then nothing, I'll still double check by my teacher)
