pls help!!!! use the change-of-base formula to evaluate the experssion log base of 4 (24)?

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

\[log_4{24}={log_a{24}\over log_a{4} }\]

OpenStudy (ash2326):

We have \[\log_4 24\] we know that \[\log_b a= \frac{\log_c a}{\log_c b}\] Using that here, let's take the common base as 10 \[\log_4 24= \frac{\log_{10} 24}{\log_{10} 4}\] Now check the log tables and find the value of log 24 and log 4

OpenStudy (ash2326):

@Kissa15 did you understand?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i did.. soo you would always use log base of 10 for these type of problems

OpenStudy (ash2326):

Yeah, here we have 24 and 4, that's why we have used base 10 If we had 32 and 4, we would have used 2 as the base. We could then easily solve it without using log tables.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that makes sooo much sense now. thank once again

OpenStudy (ash2326):
