The number of radial nodes of 3s and 2p orbitals are respectively a)2,0 b)0,2 c)1,2 d)2,1
soory its 2p not rp
a
can u give me the reason?
there is a formula like n-l-1 and l
Orbitals are wavefunctions. When they ineract with other orbitals, they cancel each other at some points known as radical nodes.(Just imagine two sounds coming from opposite directions and cancelling each other). |dw:1332296691893:dw| The 3s wave interacts with two other waves - 1s and 2s. At some point, 1s and 3s cancel each other. At another point, 2s and 3s cancel each other. Resulting in 2 radical nodes. There is no p-orbital in the n=1 shell. The lone p-orbital in the n=2 shell has no-other p-wave function to interact with. So, there are no nodes. This is the explanation, otherwise, Aravind's formula is useful.
