Describe in detail what you expect for the changes in enthalpy, entropy, and free energy when a sample of liquid evaporates. How does temperature affect these changes? Which of the following processes has an increase in entropy? a) boiling a pot of water b) freezing a sample of water c) filtering sand out of a sample of water d) synthesizing water from hydrogen and oxygen Which of the following changes has a decrease in entropy? a)N2O4 (g) yields 2NO2 (g) b) C6H6 (l) yields C6H6 (g) c) 2LiClO3 (s) yields 3O2 (g) + 2LiCl (s) d) 3Fe (s) + 2O2 (g) yields

I have no idea what enthalpy and entropy are yet. Sorry.

OpenStudy (nottim):

Have you tried Khan's Academy?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:| no.

OpenStudy (nottim):

That MIGHT help.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Doesn't look like it haha

Describe in detail what you expect for the changes in enthalpy, entropy, and free energy when a sample of liquid evaporates. How does temperature affect these changes? Evaporation is endothermic (DH>0) and is not affected by temperature In evaporation you go from an oredered structure to a gas which means DS >0 Since DG = DH - TDs this means that DG will be negative only if TDS > DH which means at higher temperatures.
