Hello, need some help for this ASAP. (: Express y = 3x^2 - 4x + 5 in the form y = 3(x + a)^2 + k where a and k are constants. Hence, state the minimum value of y and state the value of x at which this occurs.

Thank you loads, Sam. (:

sam (.sam.):

welcome :)

What about the part "state the minimum value of y and state the value of x at which this occurs"?

sam (.sam.):

The answer should be \[y=3x^{2} - 4x + 5\] \[y=3(x^{2}-\frac{4x}{3})+5\] \[y=3(x-\frac{4}{6})^{2}-\frac{16}{36}(3)+5\] \[y=3(x-\frac{4}{6})^{2}+\frac{19}{3}\]

sam (.sam.):

Minimum at (2/3 , 19/3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OK, thx! So I should write "Minimum at (4/6 , 19/3) at the bottom? Did you simplify 4/6 to 2/3?

sam (.sam.):

yes

sam (.sam.):

you should simplify 4/6 to 2/3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh! It can be simplified?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

We can leave it simplified?

sam (.sam.):

I guess your teacher want it to be simplified

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, thx so much!

sam (.sam.):

welcome again :)
