solve: 2t^2-3t-2=0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

use the quadratic formula for \[at^2 + bt + c = 0\]. \[ t = {{b \pm \sqrt{b ^{2}-4ac}} \over 2a}\]\[t = {{3 \pm \sqrt{3 ^{2}-4(2)(2)}} \over 2(2)} \] You will get two answers one positive and one negative.

I got 2, -1/2is this right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it should be -2 and 1/2. I messed up the negative signs. The first 3 should be negative and the second two under the square root should be negative. You have to use the signs from the original equation: \[t = {{-3 \pm \sqrt{3 ^{2}-4(2)(-2)}} \over 2(2)}\]thanks for catching that.

thanks bro
