What is the difference between NH3 and NH4?

OpenStudy (callisto):

NH4 is an positive ion while NH3 is a molecule with no net charge...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

NH3 is ammonia and NH4 is ammonium. And NH3 is a base? NH4 is an acid? am i right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

NH3 is ammonia and NH4 is ammonium, but I am not sure of the nature of these substances.

OpenStudy (callisto):

NH3 is ammonia and NH4 is ammonium. <- yes NH3 is a base? <- yes NH4 is an acid? <- no

OpenStudy (callisto):

NH4 is only an ion |dw:1333185050905:dw| For an acid, there must be an ionizable H^+ ion in one acid molecule, but there're no such ions, so it's not an acid

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When you draw the structure of NH4- frm that structure hw do u know whether a substance have any ionisable H^+ ion?

OpenStudy (callisto):

Sorry, probably i made a mistake.. From google it says it is an acid (weak acid) http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20071209163509AAh7vF4 I have to check it again... Sorry!!!! :(
