on a table,x=3 ,f(x) =9 and f'(x)=12..in the second part of the q,it says write down the gradient of the tangent to the curve at the point(3,9)

the answer is 12,but i dont know how though.it it cuz f'(x)= 12 ,and thats at the bottom of the curve?

yeah, that's sort of what I thought the "gradient of the tangent line" is the slope of the line, which is the derivative at that point i.e. f'(x)=12

lol ... sure it's quite confusing. you are given a line ... x is given y = f(x) ... and slope is given ... and gradient of line is const.

the question I guess it's conceptual: do you understand that the slope of the tangent line at a point is the derivative at that point?

Well, all I can say is the gradient at a point is the slope of the line tangent to that point. It seems you have missed quite a bit so it's difficult to explain. @experimentX I don't think that is the gradient they are referring to, though it is how I know it as well. I think that the gradient vector is above the level of math that nck93 is doing
