OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

Nobel Metals ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"Noble" is used to refer to the far right hand column of the period table. These elements (all gases at room temperature, and all non-metals by definition) are called noble because they are non-reactive (as in the noble aristocracy doesn't interact with the proletariat - of course not considered noble behavior in the modern era)

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

yeah that s what i thought but i read somewhere what some of the heavy transition metals are noble too, like mercury,

OpenStudy (anonymous):

while non-reactive under most conditions, these transition metals with stable d orbital electron configurations are not noble in the same sense as these gases which have completely filled valence shells

OpenStudy (anonymous):

good question

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

according to theroy what is the next noble gas after Rn (radon), Uuo or some synthetic metal a few places before it?
