What is the solution to the equation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[5^{x}=17\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=lo 17 base 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

take log on both sides

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry * log 17 base 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you get xlog5=log17

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=log17/log5 use a calculator to solve it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@furan143 thanks for showing me how it looks cuz iddint know how to picture it

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

take the base 5 log of both sides \[x = \log _{5} 17\] use change of base... to base e logs \[x = \ln(17)/\ln(5)\] evaluate to find x x = 1.76037

OpenStudy (thomas5267):

\[ \begin{align*} 5^x&=17 \\ \log_5 5^x&=\log_5 17 \\ x &= log_5 17 \\ x&=\frac{{log_{10}}17}{log_{10}5} \\ x&\approx1.7604 \end{align*} \]
