i need help with bond order I need to figure out the; net sigma bond = net pi bond = overall bond order = for N_2

OpenStudy (rogue):

Diatomic nitrogen has a triple bond. The first bond is a sigma, and the rest are pi bonds. net sigma bond = 1 net pi bond = 2 overall bond order = 3

Here's a good animation on sigma and pi bonds: http://www.mhhe.com/physsci/chemistry/animations/chang_7e_esp/bom5s2_6.swf As for bond order, it is 1 if it is a single bond, 2 if double bond, 3 if triple bond. When you have resonance structures, it becomes a bit more complex with the delocalized orbitals and you might have non-integer bond orders.
