now we get rid of the parens. Distribute the 2. That is fancy way of saying, multiply 2 times each term in the parens.
Do the same on the right hand side, distribute the 3
like this 8+2x+60=3x-18

close. You did the numbers correctly. but to move the 3x to the other side you should add -3x to both sides.

So the part that confused you was "clearing the fraction" by multiplying by 6. You have to multiply by 6, but not ignore the denominators. You then divide the denominator into the 6. That makes them "go away"
im not normally a dumb student but i needed help badly cuz my math teacher entred me in a math contest in may and i knew i couldnt go unltil i understood this:)
