how do you calculate the gravitational field strength at an altitude of 1.5x10^4km above the earths surface? The mass of the earth is 5.97x10^24 and the radius of the earth is 6.38x10^6 .. what formula do i use, i dont know how to incorporate the altitude # .................

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Gravitational field strength, E = Fg/m [ it is numerically equal to acceleration due to gravity, but conceptually it is a different quantity ] E = G*Me/(R+h)^2 Now, substitute the values.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

graviational field strength is the force experienced by a test mass which is infinitely small the test mass being considered of unit magnitude

@shubham did you get 9.7 then ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you have problem understanding the equation I wrote or calculation ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its a question from my textbook and the answer is 087N/Kg but i can never get that answer ....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you solve it here ... I mean the substitution and then solving ..

nvm .. it worked ! thank you :)
