how many grams are in .1 mole
.1 moles of?
it has to be a substance
yes they should have a substance there, .1 moles of H would not be the same as .1 moles of Ag
are those both substances?
I'm afraid you are not clear on what a mole is.
the questions is find .1 moles of a substance, so any i guess
Well then pick your faviorate element and I can show you how to figure this out.
well i have to bring in a sample so what would be easier?
to get a sample of
Water would be the easiest probably if you have a scale that will measure pretty small numbers
we cant use water :/
\[.1 mole H_20 (\frac{18.02 g H_20}{1 mole H_20})=1.802 g H_20\]
salt then would probably be an easy one also
ok lets do salt, is that a substance though?
I would call it an ionic compound
well the sample has to be a subsatnce, do u have another one? thats not water?
\[.1 mole NaCl (\frac{58.44 g NaCl}{1 mole NaCl})=5.54g NaCl\]
What is your definition of a substance?
I think you will be ok with Salt (NaCl) I'm sure the teacher didn't want you to use water because it is super easy to find.
like a liguid?
ok then salt it is
ok i have another question, i have to bring in a sample of something containing a metalloid
Bring your salt in a glass bottle and say there is silicon in the class
you take .1 mol x (molar mass of whatever you are doing) Molar mass is just like saying the Mass of whatever element you are doing divided by 1 mole. But i think you are lost on the fact that a mole is an amount of something. Its like the same thing as saying a "dozen" a dozen eggs weighs a different amount than a dozen airplanes. that's why you needed to figure out WHICH substance you wanted to use first. you could do a mole of water, a mole of salt, or mole of Honda Accords, each one would weigh a different amount.
