One mole of metal Y was added to 1.0dm^3 of 2.0M hydrochloric acid. The metal reacted completely with with the acid to form a salt and water. Which one of the following could be metal Y? a)aluminium b)copper c)sodium d)zinc

OpenStudy (jfraser):

assuming the metal also used up all of the available acid, that would mean 2moles of Cl-1 ions must have been used to form the salt, so there are 2 correct answers. Both Cu and Zn will form +2 ions, using up 2 moles of teh Cl-1 ions present in the acid originally. Without a bit more specific info, it's impossible to tell

But Copper won't react. So would Zinc be correct?

OpenStudy (jfraser):

that is correct, so there's only 1 choice
