Glutamine is a polar aminoacid, non-charged, it is on the surface of proteins, exposed to aqueous enviroment. The polar side-chain is good for interactions with other polar or charged atoms.
Hey there, Well, the side chain of glutamine is polar 'cause it has the amino group (-NH2) on it and this group has the capacity to form hydrogen bonds.. You may have a look at the amino acids which have polar side chains on this website: Polar R groups URL: http://webhost.bridgew.edu/fgorga/proteins/polar.htm The structures will help you understand why they are polar providing that you have a ground knowledge on hydrogen bonding. I hope it helps.:)
