The circuit in the figure has 5 resistors and 2 ideal batteries. What is the magnitude of the current in the 4-ohm resistor?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(a) 1.7 A (b) 1.1 A (c) 4.0 A (d) 1.3 A (e) 2.8 A

OpenStudy (vincent-lyon.fr):

Are you sure of your values? I find 1,52 A.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, this is the answers that I should choose one of them. So yeah I am pretty sure.

OpenStudy (vincent-lyon.fr):

Well, I tried 2 different methods. Both lead to 129/85 = 1.5176 A

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i am getting 1.31

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i used kirchoff's loop rules and got 21/16=1.31A

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@benanderson5900 do you want me to explain?

OpenStudy (vincent-lyon.fr):

Watch this:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes @Siddharth18 if possible, I need explanation please!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Vincent-Lyon.Fr I have checked it out but I just don't know why the result is not any of the answers given.

OpenStudy (vincent-lyon.fr):

People who write problems do also make errors sometimes ;-)

OpenStudy (aravindg):

i suggest its a good idea to reward peple who have helped u

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@AravindG Actually I am new to this site and don't know how can I reward. Anyway I would love to do so :)

OpenStudy (aravindg):

well click on the button best answer to the answer which helped u most

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1335541922567:dw| well u now have three loops,so u'll get three equation and u have three unknowns(i1,i2,i3). try to frame the equations of the loops and find the unknowns.
