A 30.0 Picture C charged particle moves along the x-axis with a speed of 30.0 m/s. It enters a magnetic field given by Picture . Determine the magnitude of the magnetic force on the particle. 6.34 × 10-4 N 5.25 × 10-4 N 1.72 × 10-4 N 4.69 × 10-4 N 2.31 × 10-4 N

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@shivam_bhalla do u have eqution for these

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Picture please??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there was no picture

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think you should have a relook at your question :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

;) ok wait :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Anyways, I will give you the formula governing this . It is \[F= q* (v \times B)\] \[F= qvBsin(\theta)\] F-->force v-->Velocity of charge B-->magnetic field theta-->angle between charge and magnetic field

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Now we need the picture for angle between charge and magnetic field

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

these is the question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh. You missed the vectors. In that case you should find cross product between velocity and magnetic field vector The velocity vector is indirectly mentioned in the question v = 30 i B = 0.5 y + 0.3 z Now find v x B cross product

OpenStudy (anonymous):

B=\[\sqrt{.5^2+.3^2}=\sqrt{34}/10\] v= \[\sqrt{30}\] \[v*b =3.1\] \[F=q*v*B =6\sqrt{255}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@shivam_bhalla what is wrong with my calculation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nope. Do you know how to take cross product of 2 vectors??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:\ unfortiontly no :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok. I will teach you. Do you know what are vectors?? If Yes, do you know about i,j,k unit vector??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i know abit about it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok. then it makes my job easier. Also do you know about determinants(maths)??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what it mean ? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OK. Forget it. Let me teach you. Cross product is denoted by " x " Some basic cross product i,j,k are unit vectors along x , y and z axis respectively, then i x j = k j x k = i k x i = j Set 2 :: j x i = - k k x j= - i i x k= - j Hope you got that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

got it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what else ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok. Now For vector A nad B given by A = a i + b j + ck B = p i + q j + r k Can you find A x B expression?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*and

OpenStudy (anonymous):

u forget to tell me i*i or j*j i think it will be 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Bingo and yes they will be zero. Forgot to mention that. Sorry :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Two points 1) It is not i*i. It is i x i (pronunced as "i cross i") 2)k x k =0 too

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i can solve now or there are any thing else

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OK \[F= q* (v \times B)\] v = 30 i B = 0.5 y + 0.3 z Now find v x B cross product Then Find F. You will get in terms of i ,j and k Let the final answer F be F = a i + b j + ck Then magnitude of F = sqrt(a^2 + b^2 + c^2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am going out. Will be back in 15 minutes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am back. Got the answer @laura115

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes 5.25 × 10-4 N Wb :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OK great :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well done :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:D thanx but u teach very good :D :D
