When the gases dihydrogen sulfide and oxygen react, they form the gases sulfur dioxide and water vapor. (How would this be written in an equation?)

Something like this...if I recall correctly? \[ \LARGE 2H_2S + 3O_2 \rightarrow 2SO_2 + 2H_2O \] In brief - what I did was to write your basic, unbalanced equation, and then went on to balance the oxygen atoms. That required me to then balance the hydrogens and sulfurs ...which led to the above.

Assuming it is burned in excess oxygen the reaction produces sulphur dioxide and water. 2H2S + 3O2 --> 2SO2 + 2H2O
