hi can someone read my essay for me?
What's it about?
it is about evolution
i just need to make sure it sounds ok
Sure thing!
Grade level?
college
it is pretty basic though.
Third year English major, majority of people on here are high school or middle schoolers so I just get used to asking. :P
haha okay. sounds good.
the questions was: is evolution just a theory.
Who are we? Where did we come from? Did we really originate from a monkey? For generations now, these questions have been asked between politicians, biblical leaders, and the public. So what is the truth? Was Darwin correct? Do we even know the answers to these questions? I think the human population, to a certain extent, does know the answers to these questions. Evolution being a theory has been questioned, researched and even supported but does this mean the theory is correct? The exact definition of the word ‘theory’ is stated to be, “a coherent group of tested general propositions, commonly regarded as correct, that can be used as principles of explanation and prediction for a class of phenomena.” As per this definition, a theory is something that was researched, and has substantial proof to explain the phenomena. So why are we still questioning this theory? Or is evolution really a fact? The theory of evolution is mainly questioned because people do not want to accept that a human mind can explain this phenomena through research and evidence but believe it is part of a higher power. According to research and proof of humankind, evolution is a theory, but it is also a fact. A fact is not a phrase of complete certainty but it is something that has been confirmed so many times, that it is said to be true. Evolution is a theory and a fact because of the evidence that supports it through the fossil record, geographical and anatomical evidences in species. Back in the early 1800’s, Darwin started off being a scientist with not much regard. However, soon enough, he gained recognition as he traveled the world on ship. He stopped at various different locations such as the Galapagos and saw how insects, birds, and animals survive. This research gave rise to his theory of natural selection, which explained exactly how evolution occurred. Both Wallace and Darwin researched natural selection and were able to identify how it rose from evolution. Over the years to come, Darwin branched off and studied evolution in more depth. He figured out that the theory of evolution came from the idea that all life came from another life and so on. According to Freeman, “populations and species evolve, meaning that their characteristics change through time. More precisely, evolution is defined as changes in allele frequencies over time.”(Freeman, 494) At that point, Darwin concluded that all life came from an ancestor, which had common characteristics. Evidence of this theory is seen in the fossil record. Fossils are impressions, stone, petrified and preserved specimens over a course of time in history. These fossils are an expression of what existed in years before and shows a history of specimens. From these fossils, we can determine the different types of life that existed. A common example of this is the fossils from the Jurassic Era where dinosaurs first lived. The record of dinosaurs was found through the fossil records found in rocks. From these fossils, it was evident that scientists could see interactions of these animals. The first thing that scientists were able to portray in these records was the bite marks of animals. Next, they were able to find out a cause of death and were able to determine the environmental changes that affect each species. Fossils also show growth patterns and changes of species over a certain period. For example, a species first has fins to swim or wings to fly but eventually, over time, these main parts of their bodies became vestigial. Meaning that these parts were no longer in use, which then over time were no longer needed. As time went on, the growth patterns changed and animals no longer had wings but developed legs. After viewing the fossils and knowing that one life evolved from another life, it is evident to find the connection between the two. This is what Darwin did. He found similarities between species over the years and concluded that somehow, all these species were related to each other and were connected in other ways such as similar geographically As Darwin continued his study of evolution, he discovered that geography was enough evidence to support the theory of evolution. He was able to connect the distribution of organisms and species throughout the world to see how the evolved. The changes in the environment caused organisms to move around the world creating diversity in the gene pool. When Darwin and Wallace continued their study of organisms, they discovered that organisms that shared similar characteristics were located in similar places around the world. Most of these places that they discovered where separated by natural barriers. These natural barriers included rivers, and even oceans. When scientists found evidence of the same species on one side of the barrier and on the other, they concluded that at one point, the barrier did not separate these species. This gives evidence that these species were once together in one locality. Evidence of this theory was seen in the in 1915 when Alfred Wegner discovered plants and animals fossils which looked exactly the same were found on opposite sides of the Atlantic Ocean. These was proof to show that at one point, there were in the same area but were separated through natural barriers. Another piece of evidence, which was commonly noted, was the locality of placental animals around the world. According to evidence from 165 million years ago, it is shown that regions such as South America and Australia were once connected. The reason this can be said with such certainty is because of the animals that currently live there. Now, there are marsupials such as kangaroos that live in both South America and Australia but in no countries in between. Hence, there is a lack of placental animals in Australia. Since these regions are separated by vast amounts of waters, there is no potential chance of them mating and producing offspring to other countries around Australia. However, in South America, some of these marsupial animals migrated and took rise in areas such as the south of North America because there are no real barriers between the lands. Through all the transitions and travel of the species on earth, life evolved into very diverse organisms that developed into species that can populate any part of the world. The transition of these species was clearly defined through the anatomical evidence that presented itself. The first piece of evidence that distinguished this theory was that organisms which shared similar characteristics turned out to be from the same locality. This proved that they are somehow related. There are three examples of this processes. There is the analogous structure, the homologous structure, and vestigial structures. The analogous structures have different structures but the same purpose due to convergent evolution. For example, bat wings and bird wings have the same purpose but are designed differently. Bat wings are more webbed and branch off one focal point where as birds only have one wing connected to one bone structure. Although these wings looks and are designed differently, they still serve the main purpose which is to fly. On the other hand, homologous structures are structures which look the same but over time, they have formed to have a different purpose. An example of this structure is forelimbs that have vertebraes. While looking at a human being, a alligator and a bat, you can see that most of the structures of the bones are the same. They all have a humerus, and fore arm bones which are exactly the same. However, these animals do not use these for the same functions. This shows that they all evolved from the same ancestor. Lastly, vestigial structures are those which have no purpose but are still present in the orgranism. A very common example of this is the human being itself. Human beings have an appendix which is there at an adult age with no purpose. As a child, the appendix has some purpose but as the body ages, it no longer has a purpose and is just a free moving body in the abdomen. These are there because of proof that when were rew related to an other organism, we needed that structure but now, as human beings, we no longer need the structure to be used. The anatomy of species throughout generations prove that at one point, all these organisms were somehow related and that they did original evolve from each other. Likewise, there are also biological similarities to prove this point. Biological features include the stage of embryonic development. The features of many different organisms that are closely related like dolphins and humans have similar characteristics and body parts during embryonic stages of development. These similarities show that there is a shared lineage through lives different stages. Although these examples seem to be supporting just a theory, they will soon support the facts of evolution. The facts of evolution go hand and glove with the theories of evolution. Firstly, we are made aware that the earth is billions of years old. The age of the earth is a fact and is evidence because life did not exist when the earth first existed. Billions of years ago, the earth was too hot to have any life form but as the earth began to cool down, species began developing. Once the development of life began, there was no stopping to it. The life started off as multi-cellular organism appeared. This was years after the earth remained empty and lifeless. As the earth began to develop with organisms, the life forms began branching out. Like anything else, due to natural disasters, and lack of resources, some life began to go extinct. Likewise, other life began to evolve. As life died, life began somewhere else. This was the fact of life and it was understood through this that life comes from life. If there was no life first, another life form would not be able to get rise from it. It was not something that occurred out of spontaneity but from a well developed fact and theory of evolution. Knowing all this information about evolution being a theory and fact still does not address all the debates, which take place in reference to evolution. Even with all this factual knowledge why do debates occur? The answer is just as evident as the facts. One of the earlier debates which has been going on for centuries is between creation vs. evolution. Scientists believe that evolution is the true reason for life on earth where as religious and theistic leaders believe in a supernatural power, or God. For people with this belief, they are supported by the word of God, the Bible. The Bible states the theory about Adam and Eve. This states how God created them through dust into flesh. The theory, for those who believe in God and a supernatural power is something that is correct and supported by the fact that God created human beings and animals. It is agreed that human beings and animals evolve but only that we are evolving now due to environmental changes but not that we appeared from previous life. We however, according to the Bible appeared from the image that God made us to be. It is mistaken that many think that religious people believe that we are not created from our mother and father on earth. According to the Bible, in Genesis 1:1-2, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.” In verse 27, it states that, “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” (The Bible, 1) According to this text, it shows that Christians believe that God created us in heaven but our human father and mother used their sperm and egg to create us in flesh. This flesh, is believed, was from our parents on earth but not how life evolved originally. Even though both sides of the case have been determined, it still does not change that evolution is a process of life changing through time. Whether you believe in religion, or science or both, evolution is still part of life and is happening everyday and should be extended to the generations after us. Generations of children are growing up in a world that does not know the importance of evolution. I believe that students should learn about evolution and religion. The choice, like many other choices that they make in their life, should be left up to them. As per the freedom that these young children have, they should have the right to know their options before they make decision and take a stand on what they believe. Many questions do arise about evolution which can be answered through just basic biological knowledge but a lot of it is per choice. It is good to be informed both ways and to know what politicians believe as well. By being aware of what people around us think, we are influenced to make a good decision on what we believe. According to an article in Newsweek, it states, “And yet, all science is complicated. Untangling the thicket for children is what teachers are supposed to do. If anything, that's a harder task if teachers don't allow themselves to talk about the founding principle of life science, the theory that explains and underlies nearly everything about the field.” (Carmichael, 1) By understanding this quote, evolution and religion should be taught in schools so that children make and informed and education decision in their life. They may believe in religion, or evolution or neither but the decision should be their own but not influenced by either side. Through the knowledge of all the information provided, I believe that evolution is truly a fact and a theory. It has been proven for years through the fossil records, geographical and anatomical evidences. The facts remain that the earth is very old, and has had life on it for a very long time. No human being can stay on earth long enough to record everything that has happened. Therefore, there is an extremely small possibility that all of this means nothing but as per the evidence that we have here on life and in our life span, it is understood to believe that evolution is not just a theory. There is evidence everywhere you look and you do not have to go that far. Look outside the window. You’ll see a bird, some trees, maybe a dog. You can see that all of these organisms and species were not random bursts of flesh. They came from something else, they evolved and this became a theory but both that and a fact of life.
APA or MLA format?
I think its MLA format

I apologize for being in a rush, here is what I got from the first few paragraphs and skimming, I suggest if you have time to give it a good look over again before you turn it in. :) Paragraph 2, say first name of Wallace, because he/she wasn't already introduced Paragraph 3, change “…studied evolution in more depth” to “…studied evolution more in-depth” better word flow Paragraph 3, change “…frequencies over time.”(Freeman, 494)” to “…frequencies over time”(Freeman, 494). Proper MLA citation “…word of God, the Bible.” Change to “…word of God: the Bible.” Complicated English thing. :P
haha ok does the thesis sound good? also did it answer these questions: Is evolution “just a theory?” You can take this opportunity to explore some of the controversy surrounding the debate concerning evolution, how it should be taught in classrooms, its role in politics, and even questions that have arisen in the scientific community about how life evolves. Make sure to state your thesis clearly and use valid resources in your research. This is can be an argumentative essay, however, you do need to substantiate your opinions with facts that you cite. Citing other people’s opinion will not suffice.
sorry for the long msgs. i just really need to get an a
I'd suggest on your thesis to mention what your main points are. That's been the old 'tried and true' thesis method I've always used. You didn't in your paper, but also I liked how the rest of it flowed. If you have the time and can construct a good thesis mentioning your key points then do that. The point of a thesis is to preview your paper, so ask yourself if it's doing that or not.
ok thank you!
great essay but try mentioning main points dan just chuncks of facts
