First, identify which functional group has the highest priority (in this case, an alkene takes precedence over an alkane). Then find the longest chain with the functional group. After doing that, look at your side chains and number off the carbons in your longest chain (always want lowest combination of numbers). Side chains: methyl, ethyl, propyl, butyl, etc. Don't forget your di, tri, if applicable. Try it out and I can help you if you need it!

The longest chain is 4 carbons, you're right. But it's an alkene so it's called butEne. There's one substituent/side chain on carbon 2 and the double bond is also on carbon 2. Therefore: 2-methyl-2-butene
