Which of the following is NOT shown by a Lewis dot structure? the three-dimensional geometry of the bonded atoms the number and symbols of atoms present the way atoms connect to each other within the molecule the total number of valence electrons from all atom in the molecule

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the three-dimensional geometry of the bonded atoms

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you sure? you're phenomenal for misreading and giving a wrong answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol i just dont want to have to retake this exam because i didnt get enough points. you know?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

kryten is right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lewis structure you need to set valance electrons of each atom and pair them, so it gives number and symbols of atoms so it gives you the valence electrons too, and you cant see 3d structure from 2d plot of atoms and their electrons cause electrons may also cause for bonds to bend...

@Kryten Can you tell us which is ionic?Na-I or H-F ? @Shonengetsu sorry for taking this up again.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its okay cibychak. just that the question asked for covalent, not ionic. like i said i dont wanna take it up on a belief and not get enough points to move on to the semester exam. im trying to graduate.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hello, you won't get a correct answer if you write H-F,even if you go by textbook.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you mean that question which one is not covalent then all you need to do is to look at periodic table of elements and atom electronegativity, although all molecules have certain percent of covalent and ionic bond at the same time, if you see in periodic table of elements that some atom from far left and far right are paired then its ionic bond

OpenStudy (anonymous):

he's talking about this question. Which of the following is not an example of a covalent bond? H – O Br – Br Na – I H – F

OpenStudy (anonymous):

one guy says H - F is the answer and he's saying Na - l, not trying to doubt him or anything, because I'm not a chemistry genius, I'm just trying to get answers for questions I can't answer by myself and if someone can confirm that he's right, then I'll be glad to give him satisfaction for being right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

look at electronegativity, higher difference in electronegativity is in NaI

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Kryten Thank you.we got it clarified

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Higher electronegativity doesnt mean more ionic or less covalent, if electroneg difference is less than 1.7 its covalent, more than 1.7 ionic. HF has more than 1.7 as well as NaI so those are not covalent
