Write the balanced equation for these neutralization reactions: _H2CO3+_Ca(OH)2 _H2C2O4+_Ca(OH)2

OpenStudy (jfraser):

all neutralizations produce some kind of salt and water. The H+ from the acid and the OH-1 from the base will create water. The other product is a salt made from the other 2 ions "left over".\[H_2CO_3 + Ca(OH)_2 \rightarrow H_2O + CaCO_3\] is the first reaction, but it's not balanced. A quick way to balance neutralizations is to notice that each water is made from one hydroxide ion. You have to make the same number of water molecules as you have hydroxide ions at the start. The calcium hydroxide has 2 OH- ions, so you have to produce 2 water molecules: \[1H_2CO_3 + 1Ca(OH)_2 \rightarrow 2H_2O + 1CaCO_3\]
