well think of a parabola in the x - y plane but instead its opening up towards the y axis and it goes positive in the x axis and negative in the z axis

so in the x axis it goes towards positive y and in the z axis goes towards negative y

OHHHHHHHHHH!!!! okay!!! i get it!!! and so you can tell this.. because x is squared, so it's positive, but z is negative ohhhhhhhhhh

the graph of x^2-z^2=c=constant is a hyperbola(which you can plot in 2d graph, i hope)....so for different values of constant c ,different hyperbolas are formed...so if the constant is a variable then the graph is a number of hyperbolas one over another making a 3 d hyperboloid..
