first do you know how charge is calculated?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
no
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i dont understand how charge is calculated
OpenStudy (anonymous):
do you know what that numbers by N mean?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yes 14 atomic mass and 7 atomic number

and what does atomic mass and atomic number represent?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
may be atomic mass number of proton and nuetron and atomic number is number of proton and nuetron
OpenStudy (anonymous):
sory numbr of proton and electron
OpenStudy (anonymous):
atomic mass is mass of protons and neutrons (and electrons, but they have negligible mass) atomic number is the number of protons and by that number of electrons not neutrons!!!
so you have 14N7 so it has 7 protons and 7 electrons and 14-7=7 neutrons in this case number of neutrons and protons is the same but not always
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so the amount of charge is 7?

yes
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok thank you
OpenStudy (anonymous):
not a problem
OpenStudy (anonymous):
hmm
OpenStudy (anonymous):
this your example is neutral it has no charge but if you look at its compound than you would notice difference in proton and electron number which would be your charge so that atom would have that charge or oxidation number
