HOW DO I DO THESE TYPE OF PROBLEMS, CAN SOMEONE BREAK IT DOWN? PLEASE You need 540 mL of a 55% alcohol solution. On hand, you have a 60% alcohol mixture. How much of the 60% alcohol mixture and pure water will you need to obtain the desired solution?
i think you would use 297 ML of alchol and the rest water just my guess
do you know how to set it up as an equation
well i did 540 * .55 and that gave me 297
the 297 is the amount of alcohol you want at the end, but you are not adding pure alcohol, you are adding 60% alcohol. put the amount of 60% alcohol you add as \(x\) so that will give \(.6x\) amount of alcohol set this equal to 297 and solve for \(x,\) i.e. solve \[.6x=297\]
hehehehhe i was right
well sort of
are we gonna argue cuz I am READY
the question asks how much 60% alcohol you need, and how much pure water you need.
sorry
we set \[.6x=297\] get \[x=297\div .6=495\] so you need 469 gallons of 60% alcohol and the rest \(540-495=45\) gallons of water
i meant to write "you need 495 gallons of 60% alcohol and 45 gallons of water
Thank you guys :)
yw
okay i have another one that i need help with :(
Do i Do it the same way? You need a 30% alcohol solution. On hand, you have a 200 mL of a 15% alcohol mixture. You also have 80% alcohol mixture. How much of the 80% mixture will you need to add to obtain the desired solution? You will need ____mL of the 80% solution to obtain ____mL of the desired 30% solution.
