An iron tyre is to be fitted on a wooden wheel 1m diameter. The tyre is 6mm smaller than wheel. The minimum temperature raised of tyre to fit the tyre in wheel is: (cubical expansivity of iron=3.6*10^-5/degree Celsius) a)167 degree Celsius b)70 degree Celsius c)85 degree Celsius d)90 degree Celsius I calculated and obtained 50 degrees but unfortunately its not in the list of options..
is it 167
No idea.. How do you get it?
sorry i made a mistake as 3.6*10^-5/degree is cubical expansion pls neglect my ans
ur ans may be correct or is it 500
use (l2-l1)/l1 = 3.6/3*10^-5 t
Oops! i listed the wrong options.. the correct options are: a)167 b)334 c)500 d)1000
then 500 is the answer
How do you get that " (l2-l1)/l1" ?
85
wrong options
answer must be around 250 or 500
@ujjwal bro i am confused whether to include the expansion on both sides or to consider expansion of one side only.if we conside both side answer is 500 and if we consider of one side then answer is 250
find the coefficient of area expansion using 2/3 of cubical exp..find the diff between area of hole and the initial iron tyre.divide are by coeff of area exp.
by "area of hole" i mean the wooden wheel..
Thanks @quarkine and @matricked
i had to leave in between
